Reflection on my internship

As an intern with the WPHL this semester I have engaged in various research, education, and community-oriented projects that have deepened my appreciation for the vital role of the public humanities and further inspired my interest in pursuing a career in a field that nurtures these values.

My experience working with the WPHL began over the summer when I assisted in teaching and coordinating the iWitness Creativity & Self Summer Workshop, a two-week program geared toward youth in Miami Dade County. Following the workshop, I assisted in facilitating bridge programming between students and instructors, helping students prepare their work for gallery showcase in Little Haiti.

Another highlight of my WPHL internship was working with the 2024 cohort of Bowden Fellows at Ransom Everglades School. Collaborating with RE, the WPHL developed, coordinated, and delivered a series of workshops that guided the Bowden Fellows toward preparing their humanities-focused research for public exhibition.

As part of my work with the iWitness: IPC Institute for Visual Journalism, I assisted with the monthly Lunch Break series, drafting communications to our colleagues in the journalism school in preparation for each event, as well as attending and promoting the events on various channels.

I also had the opportunity to participate in many off-campus community engagement events hosted by the WPHL including the opening of “A Beautiful Struggle” featuring the work of iWitness Fellow, Alon Skuy, Give Miami Day, and the Bold. Black. Baldwin. Art Basel activations.

As I reflect on each of these experiences, I cannot express deeply enough what a delightful experience it has been to be part of the WPHL. In truth, it has been more than an internship. Through this work, I have met incredible people and forged lasting friendships. I am sincerely grateful to the entire team and look forward to all that is still to come!
