The Public Humanities Lab has been a hub for student internships from its very inception, including partnerships internal and external to the university. internships and real-life experience beyond the university walls is fundamental to the mission of Public Humanities writ large. We teach our students how to translate humanities learning into jobs and skills that will help them in their lifelong pursuits.
Through the Mellon Community Data Curation Grant, the Public Humanities Lab placed students in over 50 semesters of internships at our eight partners: Historic Hampton House; Museum of Graffiti; Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center; World AIDS Museum; Stonewall Museum and Archives; Vizcaya Museum and Gardens; African American Research Library and Community Center; and the Jewish Museum of Florida. Several on-going projects have also placed our students at the Ward Rooming House Gallery, HistoryMiami, The National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC as well as here at home with the AIDS Memorial Project, Digital Collections-FIU, The Frost Art Museum, the Black Police Precinct Museum, iWitness, and the WPHL itself. This list is forever expanding.
