In a powerful tribute to the groundbreaking Sunlight School of Beauty Culture, the first cosmetology institution for Black women in Miami-Dade County, we were honored to host Rory Lee, the esteemed lead makeup artist of MakeupByRory, Inc.
As an internationally acclaimed makeup artist, Rory's extraordinary talent and inclusive approach have left an indelible mark on various industries, spanning television, film, commercials, fashion, music videos, and more.
We had the incredible privilege of recording Rory's story, underscoring the profound significance of Black beauty culture and cosmetology in the history of Miami's Black community. The event was an ode to empowerment and a testament to the enduring legacy of Sunlight Beauty School. There was a second iteration of the pop-up at IPC ArtSpace in Little Haiti, funded by the Florida Humanities that ran from July 2024-October 2024. This time there was an emphasis on Haitian and Afro-Caribbean women’s beauty culture.
