A Call to the Ancestors

By Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab
The Ancestors: Active in Past, Present and Future By Elisa Turner

The Ancestors: Active in Past, Present and Future By Elisa Turner

Curated by award-winning photojournalist Carl-Philippe Juste in collaboration with FIU's Dr. Rebecca Friedman, the exhibition “Call to the Ancestors” delved into the traditions and rituals of transition across the Global Borderless Caribbean. Focused on the Lincoln Memorial Park in Miami's Brownsville, the exhibition narrated the impact of segregation, natural disasters, and human actions. Through essays, photographs, and art pieces, the show honored the cemetery's historic significance, offering a poignant reminder of the transformative power of transition rituals in fostering reconciliation and healing.
